Are you ready for part two of your latest spiritual stretch?
We've discussed sacred space in your home, the importance of cleansing it, and the idea of invoking spiritual energy into it. This time we'll talk about creating and doing your unique invocation and addressing some blocks.
What Energy Did You Choose for Your Invocation?
You've been ruminating on this question, right? Some of the examples I offered included love, peace, wisdom, strength, and compassion. While all of these bring exponential value to us, choosing one as primary is the best place to start.
Once you choose your primary energy, find an invocation that aligns with it.
It's easy to do this using internet searches. You can use a parameter like “invocations for courage." When you find one you like, it's totally okay to switch the words around from the original, or to shorten it. Starting off with a short invocation is a great way to set yourself up for success.
You might need to create one from scratch if you don't find one that you like—be inspired to express your Divine Self! There's no requirement that you use flowery or poetic wording unless you really like that sort of style. Experiment with how the invocation feels to you. What's important is that the words are right for you and align with your values.
Ideally you'll memorize your invocation before using it. This allows you to put your full attention on the words as you recite it. An easy way to memorize an invocation is to record yourself reading it out loud.
Listen to the recording at least once a day, speaking the words along with the recording. Usually within a week, you'll have it down pat! However, until then, in your sacred space it's totally okay to read it from your notes.
What Spiritual Energy Did I Choose?
Many years ago, I chose to start with wisdom and understanding. Over the span of my life, I also explored invoking other qualities on that list. However, as wisdom and understanding were super important to me, I started there. I'm sure this is largely why I became the wonderful listener I am today.
My starting point was when circumstances brought my attention to one called the Invocation of Thoth. Thoth is the Egyptian god of wisdom and writing.
When I was researching this invocation, I learned that there were several versions of it and not all of them were aligned with my ethics and values. However, I did find one that was close and I began experimenting with it. As I used it, I fine-tuned the words to align perfectly with my authentic self. I can report today that it has served me tremendously over the decades.
I recommend experimenting over time with different invocations. This helps you discover the ones that work best for you. While I use my Invocation of Thoth daily, I also have others on-hand for when I feel the need for a change.
You also might find it comforting to know that you don't need to share your invocation with anyone else. It's such a personal expression of your intimate self. I've shared mine with only a handful of people.
How to Invoke Spiritual Energy
Use your body! The act of invocation is using our body to BE in the God Force. It's best to stand upright. Recognize that invocation involves the use of our voice, regardless of whether we use a quiet or loud volume. Invoking is asking out loud for something with all of our heart and soul. You want to feel the emotions in the words as you say them.
“Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning.”
Everything you've heard about the power of the Word is true—especially the spoken Word. Be sure to make your voice strong, even in times when you need to keep your volume low for privacy purposes. Our voice is a powerful expression and can be used as a spiritual tool. It blends our physical vibration with our Soul essence.
You might also want to hold something in your hands as you speak, such as a sacred object. For example: a stone, crystal, cross, or chalice. This helps to ground you in the physical sense of touch. Your eyes can be open or closed as you recite the invocation—whatever you prefer.
Is it Right for You? What are the Challenges?
Probably the greatest challenge most people run into is this: feeling weird about saying something out loud when no one else is around.
One Your Path~Your Spiritual Satisfaction program colleague reported that he chose for his invocation a mental affirmation that he already did daily in his mind. At first, he said it felt strange to say it out loud while alone. However, he discovered that when he did, he could feel the deep power in the words.
Other colleagues felt that just saying the words wasn't enough. So, they incorporated the use of bells, tingshas, or singing bowls in their invocation. They found this made their invocation feel even more powerful.
One colleague shared that saying the words out loud helped her overcome the critical voice in her mind. It turned out to be an effective preparation for her meditation.
All Your Path~Your Spiritual Satisfaction program colleagues who've experimented with invocations definitely are more aware of the power of sound. Whether through using their voice or an instrument, it made them feel more centered, grounded, and connected with the God Force.
Speak Your Truth
Invocation is a “soul statement” of one’s Truth. While it isn't required for use of sacred space, it certainly amplifies the positive results of what you do there.
If you decide to experiment with invocations, remember to observe your meditation results over time. Just as with cleansing your sacred space, you should feel better and better there as time goes on. While concentration improves with cleansing your sacred space, it'll improve even more with an invocation.
Your spoken soul statement will focus you on who you want to be. Declaring it in your sacred space inspires you and empowers it into manifestation. Imagine stepping into your day after this! Are you Wonder Woman? Superman? Captain Picard? “Make it so!”
As always, I invite you to explore these topics in your own unique way—by yourself or with others. Share with me about how it's going and what blocks you're running into. You can use the comment section below, or for more privacy, email me at [email protected]
